Dawg Days: Jumpstart
GET A JUMPSTART ON COLLEGE & GET READY FOR YOUR FIRST YEAR!
Dawg Days: Jumpstart Summer Bridge is a summer experience at UMBC that strives to provide new first year students a chance to understand college academics, explore campus resources, engage in self-discovery, and connect to the UMBC and surrounding community. Through this program, students will interact with other incoming first years as well as campus faculty/staff.
Components of the Program
- Students have the option to take a Math, English, and/or General Education Program (GEP) course during the summer
- All students participate in weekly workshops twice a week to get connected to UMBC resources and offices
- Classes will take place Monday through Thursday for the duration of the program and students will have a chance to go on field trips on Fridays
- Students will have a chance to participate in tutoring and study hall to work on papers, study, complete homework and prepare for exams
- Office hours and one on one appointments will be available with Dawg Days: Summer Bridge Staff
- Participants will also enroll in a UNIV101 seminar for the fall semester to continue their academic support and campus connections
** COEIT Specific Workshops **
- Student participate in COEIT specific workshops led by current academic advisors
- Topics of these workshops include a Welcome to COEIT and Academic Advising
- Other workshops have students visit Computer Science and Engineering labs and a panel with COEIT Faculty and current students
- Opportunities to connect with current COEIT faculty, staff, and students
